Robert Louis Stevenson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1850 as Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson. He is best known for his children’s adventure novels Kidnapped (1886) and Treasure Island (1883), as well as his gothic horror novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde (1886). He was educated at Edinburgh Academy and The University of Edinburgh, and suffered from lung related health issues throughout his life. In 1890, he settled in the island nation of Samoa, where he remained until his death aged 44 in 1894.
