Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (29th January 1860 – 15th July 1904) was a Russian physician, playwright and short-story writer who is considered to be one of the greatest writers of all time and responsible for the birth of early modernism in the theatre. His works for the theatre include The Seagull (1896), Uncle Vanya (1897) and The Cherry Orchard (1904).
